Moving Parts
With pressure on to perform, there is little time to learn about new facets of the business and to dot all the i's and cross the t's before having to reach a decision or take action. One Man Board can provide some of that very quick big-picture overview of a given situation that can fill in some of the blank spots, flag some caution areas, and counsel the CEO's approach to presentation of a plan, an issue, situation, policy, update, etc., whether to the official board, investors, colleagues, staff, customers, suppliers, or community. Below are some of the general topical areas that really must be addressed in a successful organization. There are many degrees of significance depending on the company, its products and services, its depth and breadth, and so on. Some have little critical relevance. Time spent on them can usually be invested elsewhere with a greater return. It is the job of One Man Board to work with the CEO to consider some or all of these, assess how the company is doing in managing them, and setting some priorities with specific goals to close the gap between what should be and what is. All this flows easily from the conversations that are the foundation of the One Man Board relationship.
